Meet some of the Valencia CF players who have competed in the U-21 European Championship with Spain
Juan Mata and César Tárrega, the most recent scorers in this prestigious international tournament
José Luis Gayà expressed his disappointment with the 2-0 loss to Real Madrid on Matchday 23, but told VCF Media the team are looking ahead to the next game in a week's time.
"We didn't start the game well. The first half was very bad, because they had a lot of the ball. We defended very far back at times, because whenever we went forward they broke away very easily. Our pressing was inadequate, and we struggled when we got the ball back, because we hadn't had it for a long time," analysed the Valencia CF captain.
"We didn't bring the ball forward and we didn't have chances. In the second half we improved, but it wasn't enough for us to turn things around."
Gayà believes lessons can be learned from the contest, and wants the players to move on as quickly as possible with another big game on the horizon.
"You always have to be critical of yourself. We have to forget about today's game and focus on the next one, against Celta Vigo. We have to win at home, no matter what, just like when we played Elche.
"There is no other option than to focus on the next game. That's what we're going to do. We're going to pick ourselves up from this game and look ahead."
