Jordi Alba announces his retirement from professional football
The decorated Spanish defender joined Valencia CF at the age of 18, the Club where he grew and was given the opportunity to make his LALIGA debut
José Luis Gayà analysed the 2-2 draw with Getafe on Matchday 8 of the LaLiga season, commenting that he was satisfied with the improved showing from the team and an excellent level of intensity.
"The intensity that we had today is what we should have in every game if we want to have a good season. We need to forget about anything going on outside, because it isn't going to help us at all, and focus on what really matters: Every training session and every game. I think that we worked very hard to prepare the game all week. I think that we saw that today," he told VCF Media.
"We were the better side, even when we were a man down. We did defend deep, but we remained committed to going for the game on the counter. We had two very clear chances when it was 1-0, and they didn't create practically anything. In the end, the result is what matters least; when you compete like that, you are going to win much more than you lose."
He made reference to last weekend's performance, which the VCF captain saw as deficient, and was pleased with the progress made.
"We gifted the first half against Elche, which we can't do. We lacked intensity. It was everybody; it isn't a case of singling anybody out. It was a level of intensity that wasn't befitting of the club. In the end, what we have to do is what we did today: Look ahead and always aspire to score, compete in every duel -even more so in games against sides like this, who are experts in that facet. In the end, the draw and the point are not the most important thing. It's about the feeling today, which was good."
"We wanted to show that this team have character and don't back down, which is what Españeta would have liked. I think that we deserved the win, but this draw helps us to keep going."
