Jordi Alba announces his retirement from professional football
The decorated Spanish defender joined Valencia CF at the age of 18, the Club where he grew and was given the opportunity to make his LALIGA debut
Valencia CF have a chance to make it two wins from as many games when they make their first away trip of the campaign this Saturday, taking on Celta Vigo at Balaidos. Defender Mouctar Diakhaby is looking forward to the challenge -and to the season as a whole-, as he explained to VCF Media on Thursday.
“We've had a good preseason, with good games. We've worked very well. We have to think about it like that: We have to try to win every game. We will work hard to continue like this, and to win games like we did on Sunday,” the 23-year-old said at the Ciudad Deportiva.
He believes that unity will be the key to success in 2020/21, noting that “We have the desire to do things together. We have to be united, as that is the way that we will be able to have a good season.”
“We listen to the coaching staff, as we have to learn from them. They are here to help us to compete and to achieve our objectives. A team like Valencia CF have to fight for the European spots in the league.”
Whilst 2019/20 was something of a setback for the team, missing out on Europe on the final day of the season, Diakhaby is using it as motivation.
“It's a special season. We have to pick ourselves back up, because last season was very difficult for us. We have to push forward to have a good season.”
“I have more confidence in myself than ever. That's fundamental for a player. We have to believe in ourselves, and I believe in myself. I am going to work hard this year to be here fighting for my teammates.”
There was also a message for the Valencia CF supporters who are getting behind the team from afar.
“It's a difficult situation for everybody here, and for the fans. However, we feel the affection we have from the fans. We know that they want the best for us, and we are going to give everything for them.”
