Cillessen: "The most important thing is to win next weekend, but we have a very good feeling about things"
Jasper Cillessen has played at Mestalla before, in the Copa del Rey with FC Barcelona, but in this year's bwin Trofeo Naranja he got his first experience of playing at the stadium as a Valencia CF goalkeeper. The shot-stopper was impressed with the atmosphere during the game against Internazionale, and told VCF Media that he is counting down the days to the start of the LaLiga season.
"It's spectacular that, in this heat, these fans gave the support that they did. When we arrived in the team bus we got a spectacular welcome," explained the Dutchman, who is hoping to become the first choice goalkeeper for his new club.
"I think that we've done very well this preseason. The most important thing is to win next weekend, but at the moment we have a very good feeling about things," he analysed. "The goals that we've let in this preseason, from free kicks, corners and penalties, are something to work on."
Cillessen -along with Jaume Domenech- will be competing for a place in the lineup for next weekend's LaLiga opener, and is eager to get 2019/20 underway.
"I'm really looking forward to the LaLiga season starting, and that's only increased having seen the spectacular support from the fans. For me, I'd like it to be next Saturday already."
