Bruno Saltor excited about tribute game against VCF
Bruno Saltor bid farewell to professional football for good back in May, after securing safety for Brighton and Hove Albion with one fixture in hand at home against Manchester United.
He is the player with the fourth highest number of games played in Brighton history. As a player he possessed strength, focus, intelligence, and awareness.
Bruno was part of the Seagulls' memorable promotion at the second time of asking to lead Brighton to the top flight of English football. Soon after, he became the team captain and retires as a club legend.
Before Friday's friendly, Bruno told the Brighton & Hove Albion website: “It’s going to be a really special day at the Amex. To have Valencia CF here, a massive team, is going to be an amazing pre-season game and a very special one for me. Valencia CF deserve to play Champions League football, it’s been a positive season for them.”
The defender came up through the Espanyol youth ranks and made the jump to professional football at UD Almería under Unai Emery. It was under Emery that he was brought to Valencia CF, where he made 80 appearances across three seasons. He arrived on the south coast of England after departing from Mestalla, and retires after 235 official games in a Brighton shirt.
He will continue working at the club as part of the coaching staff, in the role of senior player development coach, as well as collaborating with Brighton's charity, AITC (Albion in the Commuity).
