Get to know Carlos Corberán better
Review his career here: his training in Spain and his journey through Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Greece and England.
Valencia CF coach José Bordalás spoke in a press conference prior to the game against RCD Espanyol, on Matchday 37 of the LaLiga season.
What injury does Guedes have? Are you in agreement with the clause that has been published in the press, whereby there is a fixed quota of games that he must play in order not to pay an extra fee to PSG?
Guedes has a heavy knock that has been bothering him for a few days, and we have decided that he will not train today, in order to see if he is fit tomorrow. He wants to be in the game and help the team.
I have been told about the clause, but I don't know what the terms are and I can't give an opinion. You have to ask the club about that. I can't make a statement about something I don't know.
I imagine you have seen the famous banner with the slogan “Lim Out”. What was the first thing you thought of when you saw it? Do you find it offensive?
I have not seen it. I haven't noticed it.
A few days ago you reflected that you had not been asked before the signing of Hugo Duro. Would you like to be asked about Alderete?
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to talk about tomorrow's game. Although the team are not playing for anything in terms of titles or European football, or survival, we have the possibility of improving our position and ending the season with a good showing. I think that is what we have to focus on in the remaining days of the season.
Right now I'm not going to talk about anything other than the game. I want us all to be focused on what we have at hand. I think it's important and interesting for everyone.
What do you think of the proposed suspension for Gayà?
I don't think the proposed suspension is fair. We all know José Luis Gayá and we know how he is as a footballer and a person. We have confidence in the appeal by the club.
If Guedes is one hundred per cent fit, will he play tomorrow or against Celta for the full ninety minutes?
Guedes has been experiencing discomfort for a few weeks and we will decide before the game if he is fit to play.
If the club have reached an agreement with the player and that has to be the case, we will respect the decision of the club and the player, always looking for the best for Valencia CF.
Are you more in favour of focusing on the rest of the season and then talking with the board, or would you prefer to sit down and plan for next season?
I don't know what is being said. I am focused on the day to day work at the club. If there are conversations or meetings, they come naturally. We all know that we are at the end of the season and we are thinking of finishing it as well as possible.
Have the club called you to officially tell you not to field Guedes?
I don't know the story and I can't comment on it. I was told the story this morning. It is true that the club spoke to me, but I cannot give any more details. The club spoke with the player and with his agent, and the situation will be resolved by seeking the best for Valencia CF and for the player.
A lack of communication is being transmitted. Do you have daily communication with the sporting director?
I am not transferring that. The matter involving Gayá was communicated to me today. It's not because of a lack of communication, but because the club are handling a matter that won't come to anything. They also can’t tell absolutely everything to you.
As for the matter of the meeting, I have no date for it. It will come naturally. I am not hiding anything nor am I saying anything that is not the truth. There is no date for any meeting, but it will come naturally. Miguel Corona is on a trip right now and we will talk when he comes back.
Marcos André was the most expensive footballer you brought in last summer. You said you have to change things. What has to change and what has happened this season?
He is going through a bad period in terms of his mood and confidence. On a physical level, he also has to improve. We trust that he can get back to his best. We will try.
In your presentation, you said that you did not want to set a target of Europe, that you wanted to go game by game, and you wanted that the fans leave Mestalla happy. Do you think this year has been a letdown?
I do not. Honestly, I don’t know. I'm calm because I've given everything and I'm going to continue giving until the last minute of the last game. I don’t think I have disappointed the fans or anyone else. Another thing is what people might comment on later because in football you can't please everyone. I give everything and I'm calm. The fans are aware that absolutely all of us have given everything. We all would have liked better results, no doubt about it. I would have liked to be in Europe or fighting for Europe.
What relationship do you currently have with Corona and Murthy?
A good, natural and normal relationship, as it has been throughout the season. I don't know why it should be any different right now.
