Bordalás: “The team are excited and confident ahead of the game against Cadiz”
Did a meeting with Murthy and Corona come about this week? Can you tell us what you talked about? Also, you have all players available. How will you handle this?
It was simply a normal lunch. No sporting issue was discussed. I don't know why things are said that are not true. I don't know who leaked this. Not everything that comes out is true. We had a meal and we ate with the president, the sporting director and my coaching staff. As for the squad, we have had different problems and we are bringing back those who have been sidelined. It is good news and we are going to try to manage it so that most of them are available for the cup final.
There are 4 games left in LaLiga before the final. Does this help to prepare those who are going to play in the final?
Whoever plays is going to play. It's still early days. You have to think about the present. We are happy with our goalkeepers, they are all good and the one who has been playing is Giorgi, doing really well.
Lato came onto the training pitch but then didn’t participate. How is he?
He is in a period of readaptation to join the group fully, and we do not know how many days it may take. We're not in a hurry because we're not going to force anyone, as the important thing is to get to April 23rd in the best shape possible. We will face the league matches with the players who are fit.
How do you see Cadiz?
We have faced each other in the cup, and that game wasn’t without difficulty. They created quite a few problems for us and we had to make a big effort to get through to the semifinal. They had even reserved players then, because they had an important LaLiga game with salvation at stake. They are going to be difficult opponents and they just beat Villarreal. They have been doing things well and want to get a good result. We have to have a great game if we want to win. The team are excited, and we are confident that we will have a good game to achieve victory.
Do you have a cup goalkeeper and a league goalkeeper?
No. All footballers are important. I'm going to try to line up whoever I think is in the best shape. All three goalkeepers have played and have gone through periods of greater success, but everyone is contributing and we are happy with everyone.
Would you have liked the match before the final to be postponed?
Yes, but there isn't that possibility and we can't be lamenting it. We have to face the calendar that we have, and reserve the players that we consider to be in better shape to face the final, but without underestimating LaLiga, which is very important.
Soler and Musah have played in the middle with their national teams. Is it their best position?
They are players who are comfortable in that role and perform at a good level there. Here they have also played in that position and we have modified things based on the problems we have had in the season. Sometimes we have to fit players into positions that are not the best for them, but are better for the team. We always think of the team and the whole, above all else.
What has changed with Cádiz under Sergio?
I have seen a very attacking team, with confidence, Sergio is a great coach and we are seeing this week after week. All the teams have a lot at stake, and we see the difficulties that they pose. Not only Cádiz, but teams like Getafe, Elche and Athletic, have been difficult to beat. Valencia CF were fighting for salvation at this point last season. Football sometimes has no memory and we have to value the work that the team are doing. Now we are thinking about reaching the top positions. Cádiz are in good form and it will be a difficult game.
