Bordalás' career to date
José Bordalás' philosophy and style of play has evolved as his career has progressed, but the coach has always maintained a high level of demand and an aptitude for leadership. Upon his arrival at Valencia CF, we look at his career to date.

Bordalás began his career as a coach at lower levels at Alicante CF, eventually taking charge of the first team in the Tercera División. Later, he was given the reins at Benidorm CD, CD Eldense and Muchavista, before returning to Alicante CF in 1998 -moving them up through Regional Preferente and to Segunda División B in three years.
He repeated the feat at Novelda CF, helping them to survival in Segunda División B, then was back to Alicante CF in 2005 -with whom he was a champion of Group III in Segunda División B and came close to achieving promotion. With CD Alcoyano he won the same title, then achieved survival for Hercules CF in the Segunda División proper.

After leaving Hercules CF, he established himself in the Segunda División and came very close to taking both Elche CF and AD Alcorcón up, eventually doing so with Deportivo Alavés in 2015. He led the Basque team to promotion, although he would depart the club before the start of the next season.
The following year he was hired by Getafe CF, who at the time were in the relegation positions in the Segunda División. Bordalás had an immediate impact on the team and led them to climb the table to reach third position, entering the playoffs and achieving promotion by beating SD Huesca and CD Tenerife.

In 2017-2018 he coached in the Primera División for the first time, taking Getafe CF to a meritworthy eighth in the table. During the following season, his side fought with Valencia CF until the last matchday for a Champions League spot, and he received the Miguel Muñoz award for best coach of 2019.
In the 2019-2020 season, a campaign affected by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he kept Getafe CF competing domestically and in Europe, where they defeated Ajax in an epic tie to reach the Last 16 of the UEFA Europe League.
The new Valencia CF coach arrives at Mestalla with a long history of achievement, high demand and competitiveness as his core values.
