Carlos Corberán: “We are eager to give the fans the three points”
Valencia CF head coach press conference ahead of the match against RCD Mallorca
Maxi Gómez' opening strike against Getafe was chosen as the 'Goal of the Matchday' for the midweek fixtures. The Uruguayan striker found the net twice in the Wednesday night contest, but it was his overhead kick that was the pick of the bunch.
The forward, who came on as a substitute early on in the game to replace the injured Kevin Gameiro, hooked the ball into the net on 30 minutes to take the score to 1-1. It was a goal that he described as "one of the nicest of my career" to VCF Media after the game, and the first overhead kick of his senior career, either in Uruguay or Spain.
.
With that goal, combined with the header that he sent into the net from close range just 3 minutes later, Gómez lifted his tally for the season to 3 from 6 games. As he has appeared in 5 of Valencia CF's opening 6 LaLiga games, the brace -plus his strike against FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Matchday 4, gives him an average of a goal for every 83 minutes on the pitch.
