Corberán: "The team grew during the game"

The coach reflects on the Copa del Rey win over Ourense CF

The coach of Valencia CF, Carlos Corberán, spoke in a press conference after his side beat Ourense CF in the Copa del Rey.

The match

“I would like to congratulate Ourense, because they did a very decent job in this competition, showing such dignity and competitive ability. The team were committed and I am sure that after analysing the match we will be better prepared. We expected a different game. They made the first half uncomfortable for us and in the second, we found solutions.”

Reaching the quarter finals

“We are going to continue fighting in the competitions in which we play. Our priority does not change, but we are not going to throw away a cup competition because I respect it a lot, because of the history of the club, because of the history of the competition, out of respect for all our fans. Today it was a source of pride to see the number of fans who have travelled and it speaks of the greatness of the club that we represent. That brings responsibility and we have to continue competing in every match.”

The VCF Academy

“We always try to be very close to the people at the VCF Academy. It is one of the best academies around. There is work behind it that the first team takes advantage of. The VCF Academy works magnificently and we always try to work with the VCF Mestalla coach, Miguel Ángel Angulo, with the people from the VCF Academy, so that they continue to contribute and nourish the first team with those players who help so much at different times. There have been youth team players on the field, a player making his debut, and we are going to try to work together to take advantage of their work and for us all to unite in reaching the objective we have.”

Hugo Guillamón

“I see in him a committed player, who makes the effort. Every day he tries to fight to get back to his best, to help the team. It was important to continue evaluating the team and that players with fewer minutes have them, because we need them all to meet our objective.”

The win

“The objective was to be in the quarterfinals and the team achieved it. Each game will always give us moments of reflection, for improvement, and the more difficulty we overcome, the more we will grow as a team. I'm happy because the players were involved, they were committed and we achieved the objective.”

Sadiq

“He has shown that he thrives close to goal. He made a solo move, scoring an important goal, and that goal will surely give him the confidence to score many more. I'm satisfied with the minutes he played, and they will help him to continue growing as a footballer. The goal, as a forward, gives him a bit of confidence that is important to continue helping in that aspect. I have seen a Sadiq with a lot of desire and that will to play, to get back to his best and score goals. I also want to increase his desire to contribute to the game at all times.”

Competitions

“We have a very clear primary objective, but we are not going to throw away this competition. Valencia CF have a history, a background in this competition and we have to become competitive in every game we play. I do not understand football in any other way.”

Almeida

“He is a unique player in his position and in his abilities. He helps and improves play. He is very committed to his improvement and to helping Valencia CF. I am very excited to work with him because I see his mentality and a level of desire that is very important -and that the team need. That desire, together with his personality and his ability as a footballer, means I am convinced that he will help us a lot.”

Pablo López

“He is a young kid, but with a lot of self-confidence. He is daring, he faces up and he has room for improvement. It is a pleasure to work at a club that works the way the VCF Academy works, and to be nourished by the work that the coaches and the sports management at the VCF Academy do. We must try to take advantage of it and optimise it. There are a lot of young players from the youth system in the squad and that is not a coincidence, it is the result of work that I am going to try to make the most of.”
