Gracia: "I'm happy about continuing this dynamic of good results"
Valencia CF coach Javi Gracia reviewed the Copa del Rey victory against AD Alcorcón in a post-match interview with VCF Media, and emphasised the importance of keeping a winning run going in a competition that saw several big names eliminated this weekend.
The victory
“It wasn't just about us going through. The tie had its difficulty as well; we were up against a lower division side, but we've seen what has happened when they have played against LaLiga sides -as well as against other Segunda División teams. We were aware of the difficulties we would face. I think that we started the game very well, and went ahead early. That helped us to manage the game a little better. I'm happy with the three consecutive victories, and with having kept a clean sheet, which is an added bonus. I'm also happy to continue this dynamic of good results and a good atmosphere, and this result will allow us to gain more confidence.”
Wins against lower league opposition
“We play the teams we are drawn against. Two of the three games have been against lower division sides, but they provide their own difficulties. We have seen the squad competing; it hasn't just been eleven players out on the pitch, but rather a team that involves the entire squad. When players come in, they do a good job. That's because they have the ability and because they feel the support of their teammates. We really have a very good atmosphere.”
Avoiding an upset
“We'd seen some of the surprises from the other games -yesterday, above all. A lot of Primera División sides have been knocked out, and on 90 minutes yesterday there was no LaLiga side through to the next round, as they needed extra time and penalties to do that. Every game is tough, and I want to highlight the high effort put in by our players.”
Rotations in the squad
“I don't like to talk about different 'units'. There is only one, that is made up of the entire squad. What has been made clear is that when it is their turn to play, they are ready. That helps us a lot to compete; it's done that so far, and we have further important games to play.”
