Maxi Gómez scored the opening goal of Valencia CF’s 2-1 win over Real Valladolid, turning the ball in at the back post off an excellent Kevin Gameiro assist. The striker has been experiencing misfortune in front of goal as of late, and was pleased to break into double figures for the LaLiga season.
“We deserved a win. We had been fighting for this. I think that we deserved a little more against Granada and made a mistake at the end there that was everybody’s fault, which cost us dearly. Today we went out with a good dynamic and I think that the group were very good in the first half. In the second half we trailed off a little. Their goal came at the start of the second period, but we kept on fighting and working hard. It was through that we got the goal from Kang In; congratulations to him for that.”
“I celebrated like I did because I’d gone several games without a goal or being able to help the team. Thankfully I was able to help and we took three very important points,” he said of his contribution, a first goal since January 25th at the Camp Nou against FC Barcelona.
His goal keeps Valencia CF in the fight for Europe, with three games to play.
“We are treating every game as a final. Every team is in good form after the break, and we are going to fight to the end and work for as many points as possible. Getting up there at the top is what we all want.”
