The lowdown: October 9th
The 9th of October marks Valencia's regional day, but it is also the feast day of San Dionisio( Saint-Denis), traditionally considered the patron saint of lovers. During this day, as a tradition, men gift a silk scarf with an assortment of marzipan inside, in a tradition known as the 'Mocaorà'.
The activities planned for the day include a fireworks display at midnight on October 8th. The next day, the 'Bajada de la Real Senyera' (Descent of the Royal Flag) from the Municipal Historical Museum will open the festivities. A civic procession will make its way to the cathedral, the Basilica of Santa Maria, and the Metropolitan Church, leaving a floral offering at the statue of Jaime I (King James I), before continuing on to the City Hall.
Afterwards, a mascletà bangers are let off and a dance takes place in Plaza de la Virgen, followed by the Festival de Balls, Música i Cançons Valencianes ("Valencian Music and Concerts") and finally, the entry of the Moors and Christians Ciudad de Valencia.
