Carlos Corberán begins his tenure as Valencia CF Head Coach
The new Valencia CF coach has already started work at the Ciutat Esportiva de Paterna
The decision to rule out a goal against Real Madrid due to Maxi Gomez's position on the pitch attracted plenty of opinions, not least from the Uruguayan himself. He spoke to VCF Media after the final whistle to express his frustration.
His condition
"I had a knock after a collision with Valverde, it was hurting a little and I thought that the pain would go away in the second half, but it was still there. I have to keep working in the games that remain."
The first half
"We had a good first half. The team worked very hard against Real Madrid, a team who play very well. In the second half I think that we started off a little switched off, and from there the goals came."
Rodrigo's disallowed goal
"I really don't understand it. At no point did I go to contest the ball. I was coming out and the ball was a metre away from me, and it was given as offside. After looking at the VAR footage, I was stunned, because in the situation we were in the goal would have done us a lot of good. We went out with everything in the first half, and for me the goal was wrongly disallowed."
"I didn't touch the ball and I didn't do anything -not even make a move towards the ball. It really hurt, because scoring against Real Madrid isn't easy. We were playing well, having a very good first half, but it was ruled out and we dipped a little."
The psychological effect
"I think it was huge. I think that it had a big impact on us. It was a goal that would have given us a big morale boost, because you know that you can't make any mistakes against Real Madrid. They can score from any move. That's why I'm so hot-tempered about it."
Champions League aspirations
"We're going step by step. I think that we are a little hurt by the defeat today, but from now we are going to focus on Sunday's game. Every match is a final, and we are going to go out there to win them all."
