Florenzi debut wins over Mestalla in rapid fashion

A debut straight into the starting lineup saw the Italian impress against Celta

Alessandro Florenzi has been wasting no time since his arrival in Valencia on Thursday evening. The Italian has barely paused for breath, arriving in Spain, signing his contract, undertaking his first two training sessions and getting to know his teammates. On Saturday night, in typical speedy style, the defender made his debut for the club.

Allotted the number 25 shirt, the new loan signing was included in the starting lineup by coach Albert Celades. He was included at fullback, allowing Daniel Wass to move to more of a central midfield role, and looked very much at home in the VCF defence.

Solid in defence, Florenzi also had a chance to score, as he ran off the opposition back line to meet a ball by Ezequiel Garay. His shot forced a great save from Celta Vigo goalkeeper Rubén Blanco, denying him a goal on his debut.

Florenzi would be taken off on 52 minutes, and received a rousing ovation from Mestalla when his number was held up. The Italian has quickly won over the fans, and given promising signs of what he has to offer.
